Q: Do you know The Academy Is...?
A: No, I do not know them. I get recognized sometimes, but usually I have remind them about the site and then they remember who I am.
Q: Does TAI know about this site?
A: Yes. They knew about TAI Online (MSN Group). I told them the new link in November of 2008. I'm not sure they know the actual link (although I do tell them it every time I see them). William has said the name change is good. They are well aware this site exists.
Q: Was TAIO really promoted on TAI's myspace?
A: Yes. On April 19, 2006 they posted a blog and bulletin about the old site (TAI Online/MSN Group).
Q: What do you use to make your graphics/website?
A: Self taught in Photoshop, although I did take two college classes in it. I learned some stuff in Dreamweaver in highschool, and that's what I use to code.
Q: How many times have you seen TAI live? Which line ups?
A: At this point in time, I really don't know how to count the times I've seen them live. With acoustic sets thrown in, it makes things difficult (do they could as halves? do two acoustics equal a whole?). I have seen them full on live sixteen times and twice acoustic (once with Michael and William, the other with mostly William and some Adam). I did see them once before Tom and The Butcher (I'm actually not sure if he was there or not) entered the band. I saw them seven times with Tom. The rest of the times are in their current line up. And no, I have never traveled out of the state to see them. I have only missed one TAI event in Michigan in the past five years - it was a Hot Topic acoustic event.
Q: Who is your favorite TAI member? You MUST have one.
A: Actually, I don't. I have never favored one member of TAI. They all have been nice to me.
Q: Favorite TAI songs? Favorite album?
A: Hard question. Sputter is my current fave. Almost Here will always be special to me, but I'm a huge fan of the Lost in Pacific Time EP, it's probably my favorite thing they've put out since Almost Here.
Q: How long have you liked TAI?
A: Since 2004.
Q: Do you have TAI's screenames?
A: Nope. I'm not even sure they have screenames. Michael has a myspace though. Four of them have Twitters. I know everyone is trying to get Mike Carden on Twitter, but he hasn't yet.
Q: Do TAI have girlfriends? Does William have a baby?
A: I absolutely HATE to bring their personal lives into this website, but in the November 2009 issue of Alternative Press, William confirmed that he is engaged and has a two year old daughter named Genevieve. As for the others, I have no idea, and I have no desire to find out. Ask yourself if you really want to know.
Q: How do I meet TAI? Does the venue allow cameras?
A: Wait around by their bus before or after the show. You are more than likely to catch one if not all five guys. Either that, or sign up for Santi's Little Helpers and you can get chances to meet the band through meet and greets. As far as cameras, it depends on the venue. I've really never had a problem, TAI themselves don't ever seem to care if you have a camera, it's up to the venue.
Q: Who is Tom Conard? Why is he no longer in the band?
A: Tom Conrad was the guitarist/backup singer for The Academy Is for about two years. In mid September of 2006, rumors started circulating the TAI livejournal community that Tom was out of the band. These "rumors" continued for about a month. Finally it was announced in late October that Tom Conrad and The Academy Is had parted ways. You can check out www.forevernever.net which is his photography website. Tom was eventually replaced by Michael Guy Chislett, formally of Butch Walker's band. Tom is now in a band called
EMPIRES (I highly recommend them!).
Q: What is Santi? What is a Santi?
A: Santi is The Academy Is' 2nd release. The word Santi has been used for quite some time by TAI and their fans. It was a shortened version of Santiago, the last name of a kid that Adam Siska didn't like. The word is basically a greeting now. No one is actually sure of the true meaning, and it seems to mostly be an inside joke for the band.
Q: How did you create this website?
A: First off, you have to have a lot of free time, and it has to be a hobby. It all takes a lot of dedication. I have a lot of graphic design experience, I'm self-taught mostly, but I did take Photoshop classes and all of that helps. Coding is the toughest part, but it gets easier once you get going. I know I had a REALLY hard time coming up with information about php, so I recommend this
website for anyone confused since it explains the basics. It's really easier than it seems, but it's really easy to screw things up really fast. Email me with any questions, and I'll try my hardest to try and answer them.
